Monday 8th October - Friday 12th October (Happy Birthday Mum!)

Arrived in Campo Grande to even hotter tropical heat and somehow managed to find a bus to Bonito leaving in an hour (we even figured out the time difference!).  We grabbed some breakfast and got ready for the next leg of the journey - Brazilian buses not as good as Argentinian, and a lot more expensive!

Finally made it to Bonito and checked into our hostel - the only one with a pool!  Very hot here (about 40 degrees) and no air conditioning this time!  Just a fan to whiz around the hot air like a hair dryer!

Bonito is a popular town (but very small!) as a base to snorkel in the crystal clear waters of surrounding spring filled rivers and pools, and so the next day we hired bikes and cycled in the sweltering heat to a river and natural pool 8k away.  We spent the day here snorkeling and swimming in the fish filled river (crystal clear water!), and had lunch watching the wild macaws and toucans in the trees.  Cycled back once the sun had gone down and tmeperatures dropped by 3 degrees!  Great day!
Crystal clear water.........Aqua de coco.....A wild rhea.........
Our first day snorkeling had been a practice (Claires first snorkelling expedition) for a day trip to the Rio De Prata.  Here we walked thorugh the forest (biazzarely in our wet suits) to the river where we began our 3k snorkel down the river.  The current was fairly strong and so was more like floating downstream whilst seeing many different types of fish!  We also saw lots of wildlife in the surronding forests including monkeys and toucans.  Really wanted to see a giant anteater which appearently lives in this area, but no luck!  Was great fun and finished off with a delicious brazilian buffet dinner!
01 Our snorkeling buddies.......That´s us by the way......Scary big fish...........
Toco Toucan.......Monkey by the river....Claire snorkeling......!

After a day or two lounging by the pool, we will catch the bus tomorrow out of town and next stop will be Rio (about 25 hours away by bus!)- but its not the end of the trip!  From Rio we will spend our final few weeks exploring the south Brazil coast, and also hope to fly north to visit Salvador and surrounding area (budget permitting!) before returning to Rio for one last weekend in Brazil!

Hope you are all well, lots of love Ross and Claire  xxxx
