Arrived in Puerto Iguazu at lunchtime after a very relaxing journey on the luxury bus - even had breakfast in bed! This is the closest we will ever come to travelling business class! Delighted to discover tropical weather and temparatures in the 90īs. Checked into a lovely hostel/guesthouse and relaxed in hammocks in the ījungleīgarden for the afternoon.
The next day we caught an early bus to the Iguazu Falls national park on the Argentinia side.
We followed the walkways that take you close to all the waterfalls, culminating in the "Devilīs Throat" . We also caught a boat to the Isle of San Martin with trails close to a number of waterfalls.
The falls were spectacular, and we were amazed by the number of falls in the park. However, due to the high number of tourists, and after our time in more undeveloped areas, we couldnīt help but feel like we were in disneyland, and thought the metal and concrete walkways could have been desgined more sympathetically to the environment! The next day we therefore walked a less popular trail that took us thrugh the jungle of the national park to a stunning waterfall and natural pool. We saw lots of wildlife inlcuding coaties, butterflies and a guinea pig like animal. Insects were huge with wasps sounding lke they had engines! We even saw wild toucans!
Then we took a safari trip which promised to take us deeper into the national park to learn about the environment here - however this was somewhat of a let down! Guide drove at such a speed, all we could do was hang on in the back of the open jeep dodging hornets! No way we could have seen any wildlife or heard any, unless we had run it over! Not recommended!
Very hot at Iguazu Falls and we were so releived to have splashed out on a room with airconditioning! Spent the evenings eating as much steak as possible as this was our last stop in Argentina.........
Next stop Foz Do Iguazu to see the falls from the Brazilian side...
