So I have to backtrack a bit, been a while since Ive been able to write and Oporto now seems like a lonnnngggg time ago...which is really sad since it was one of my favorite cities. The place is so picturesque with tiny alleys that wind up a massive hills, it was not the easiest city to walk around in. But I did do a lot of walking, especially down in the Ribeira area down by the river. Beautiful old buildings covered in ornate tiles lined the waterfront and the river was filled with tiny boats carrying barrels of the world famous port. Get it? PORT, oPORTo?? Haha, so of course I did some port tastings with a couple of Kiwis I met who were really nice, doing a 6 or 7 month backpacking trip before they head back to New Zealand to get hitched and Oporto was theyre last stop. We all fixed dinner one night (I should really say Sarah did, she made the main, rosemary chicken and veggies, yum!!) which was one of the best dinners Ive had while traveling. Im learning more about cooking while traveling than I did living in Boston and I dont even have my own kitchen! Had a nice port tasting in the beautiful gardens of the Crystal Palace (no crystal palace though, what gives?) and had one last dinner together of the standard Portuguese fare, roasted meats with piri-piri (chili) sauce, very good. Great city and great company, I miss Oporto already!
