Weekend trip to the Coromandel peninsula with Paul & Michael. Gorgeous walk to Cathedral cove then spa time on Hot Water Beach. Boiling water bubbles up through the sand, simply dig your own spa pool in the sand, channel the hot water & sit back & watch everyone else get burnt as they tried to dig their own spa in the only clear bit of sand - where the water was WAY too hot!
A friend of Guy, Shelly recommended a beach called New Chums, it was hard to find & involved a long walk over rocks across a freezing cold river estuary & over a headland but it was beautiful & empty, a pity it was too cold to swim. On the way back we went on a miniture train built by a potter, Barry Brickell in the Coromandel hills so he could get the clay to his pottery, but it grew into a major tourist attaction & now they have their own Eyefull Tower at the top of the tracks!
