A bright sunny but cold morning greeted us for our trip to the island of Tiritiri where we were going to try to spot a Kiwi. A small island sanctuary for native birds with all the nasty foreigners removed following some local ethnic cleansing - means that a few NZ bird species live here & almost nowhere else.
We roamed the island in our quest but to no avail, even on a nighttime walkabout - we heard the Kiwis but never saw them. However we did see little Blue Penguins which were much cuter! and Takahe birds which are almost extinct.
