And the title doesn't just refer to the two of us!
We ve been melting in one of the hottest places on Earth Death Valley. its mid September & still was 116F, 47 C in the non existent shade. The air is so dry & hot its feels as if you are standing in front of a giant hair drier. And dont think about sitting down for a rest as the rocks are apparently 80f hotter & they burn!
Spectacular scenery, definitely want to return in a cooler season. The dunes, saltflats, canyons, ghost towns & endless mountains & vast amounts of nothingness of the open valley are amazing.
Last might we had a sand storm & watched massive lightening displays over the mountains as it tried to rain despite the temperature!
Its a long drive from LA but we broke the journey with a tour of Mojave airport where there is an airplane graveyard & planes are stored  when not wanted.
Spent the night in Lone Pine a pretty Western town where lots of cowboy movies were filmed.
Contender for scariest eating place so far - the bar in Beatty NV, its a whole other world out there!

Trona
Did you manage to call into one of the most depressing towns in the area - a chemical town called Trona with very high rates of cancer ! They extract minerals and chemicals from the dry valley floors and the town looks grim but strangely appealing !
Glad you are enjoying Death Valley - it is an incredible place. You can just feel suburn at 50 paces in 5 seconds as your face is dried to a cinder !
