After the bus ride we stopped at McDonalds to use their facilities and were shocked to see how many people (mostly young) were there; nary a seat was available. We were tempted to have our burger fix but resisted because there was a Portuguese sandwich we had seen and wanted to try. We walked back to the riverfront and each couple shared a "francesinha". It is a hot sandwich with ham, beef, cheese, and sausage centered in a tomato soup. Trust me, you had to be there to appreciate the "heart attack on a plate." We celebrated the end of our trip with another big pitcher of sangria
The wine affected our decision making process as Yvonne and Ron decided that we should walk back to the hotel rather than taking a cab so off we went. About a mile and a half later the ladies called for a rest and when we said we were only half way home Yvonne quickly flagged down a cab (headed in the other direction) before we had a chance to protest. The cabbie made a U turn and came back for the fare. So we can take credit for a partial walk home!
The group farewell dinner was held tonight at the hotel and we enjoyed the tenderest pork tenderloin dinner we have ever had. Lots of goodbyes to travelers we will probably never see again but who knows, perhaps one day our paths might cross again.
Another night to sleep in as we have a late afternoon flight to Lisbon where we spend the night before heading home. The only problem that remains is repacking our luggage.
So we say farewell to the city of Porto. Everyone agrees that it is a lovely destination worthy of a visit. We all enjoyed our time here.
