I left Sunday, May 16th from LAX. Just the regular trip, you know, VIP lounge, Business class, lie flat seats, comforter, pillow, good food, free drinks, etc. I know it's rough. But someone has to travel and keep an eye on the employees!!
Leaving Sunday, I connected through Lima, I've actually done this trip enough times now, that I can beat everyone else on the plane through the in-transit line
After my brief stopover in Lima, it was a short 4 hour hop to Sao Paulo. Once we were allowed to recline our seats, I made mine into a bed and promptly went to sleep. Got a good solid 3 hours of shut eye!
Our flight arrived with several other flights at 8:30am, but since most people were still sleepy and confused as where to go, I was one of the first people in the immigration line. I only had to wait about 20 min, and then I was through. Going to baggage claim, my bags were just arriving on the conveyor belt. Perfect so far!
I waded through the mass of people, ignored all the guys saying "taxi", "taxi"....and went to the actual taxi stand. Gave them my hotel name, the lady told me the price and just for grins I said, you still accept Amex right.? Well right there my perfect day went out the window. The lady behind the counter said "no - pay driver" WHAT????? What a pain. Now I had to go exchange money. However, the good news is that there were several ATM's against the wall right inside the airport - Bingo! Got enough cash to pay the driver and for my taxi the next morning to work.
My taxi driver was speeding through the streets of Sao Paulo - he really knows his way around - we were in the city in no time
Right before the driver was going to make the right hand turn, the car in front of him stopped suddenly! Good thing I was wearing a seat belt, because he stopped to keep from hitting the car in front of him, however the motorcyclist behind us didn't fare so well. I heard a loud THUD, and when I turned around, I saw a guy holding his arm, and trying to pick up his motorcycle. Uh oh...now we were in trouble. I was also a little cautious because you hear about these types of things happening and then they rob you.
Well the taxi driver got out of the car and a couple of other people behind us got out of their cars as well to see how the motorcycle guy was. After a few moments of discussion, the motorcyclist picked up his bike and everyone got in their cars and went on their way. Weird. Welcome to Sao Paulo.
I checked into my hotel and what an awesome surprise - they gave me a Jr. Suite. NICE!!!!! Sometimes it's the little things that make traveling fun. The best part - I actually got to work from the hotel for the day and didn't have to go to the office
Tuesday was a tough day to wake up. I was still tired from the day before and getting used to the 4 hour time change. uggh! The rest of the day, was your typical day in the office. Nothing to write about.
Wednesday, I woke up feeling more refreshed. Maybe because I realized I only had one more day until I saw my husband, and took a short weekend vacation in Chile.
I also want to tell you that I think I finally got the hang of this traveling thing. I got int the cab at the hotel, and the driver started to drive out the wrong entrance, which would have made the fare a lot higher, when I told him in broken Portuguese he needed to go out the other driveway. He replied "oh yes, I forgot". Scam averted!!!!!
So now it's Wednesday night, and tomorrow afternoon, after spending the morning working in the office, I will be on my way to Santiago, Chile. A city I have not been to in a while so I'm looking forward to it.
Until the next post.....
