You know it is getting cold when the kids mention it. We are writing letters to a soldier in Afghanistan and more than one kid told him that "it is getting cold up here". I also heard one of them talking about it in the hall the other morning - about how cold it is now getting on the way to school. I base it on whether or not I need my hood. First, it was when I needed to change over to the big parka, then it was when I needed a scarf over my nose, and now it is when I need my hood. Next big move will be when I need to switch over to the bigger mitts. I can't believe I was chatting to an older gentleman on the street (OK - when it's cold a "chat" means a passing comment of more than 3 words) and we talked about what a "gorgeous day" it was: that was because I could walk to school the whole way without my hood up.
