Garbage bags vs Tinfoil  --- and the winner appears to be garbage bags.

Last night in the Lounge at the Eskimo Inn I was chatting with folks and mentioned that I needed more tinfoil as the two boxes I'd gone through were not enough to block out all the light (I had leakage).  Terry (works at Home Hardware) told me that tinfoil "blows the seals" around the windows (and he wasn't being rude or naughty).   I have to admit that I'd heard this from the rental women but thought maybe it was just something they said to stop you from putting up tinfoil for aesthetic reasons.  If I had given my head a shake I would have thought black plastic wouldn't be their alternative.  I had seen a number of windows with tinfoil and figured the townies knew what they were doing.  I used garbage bags on my bedroom window in Tasiujaq to great success.  All I had to add was a towel across the crack under the door and when it got really light I also added a blanket down the length of the door.  You'd be surprised how in COMPLETE darkness the tiniest slice of light is like a burning laser.

I bought a couple of flashlights at Home Hardware this morning.  The lights went out at school yesterday and I was told that this is occurs on a regular basis.  Then I thought about going home (or to) school in the dark months and realized I will probably need one for those trips.  I took the non-road route home from the bar last night and there is a section without any help from streetlights or building security lights.
