The ravens are so large that the flap of their wings sound like a helicopter coming in for a landing. When there are 4 swooping towards your hotel balcony...... well, I ducked in and shut the screen door.
Their call is loud and echos all around town off the metal roofs.
I finally got to see my new place!! Oh my - it is nicer than my house in Nanaimo!! It feels so large and airy. Maybe that's got to do with the large windows and the 22 hours of daylight. I met Sandy and Reg who were moving out and who I will work with at some point. The place was spotless - a huge difference from when I moved into my apartment in Tasiujaq. After hours and hours of cleaning my classroom with rags and soapy water and yards of paper towel I was not looking forward to getting on my hands and knees and swabbing out a fridge and cleaning cupboards. Heck, the fridge and stove look new they are so clean.
There were also things in it that they didn't tell me about -- and some I wish they had. Like, it turns out there is a TV in a large entertainment unit and it also has a VCR and CD player. Darn! I could have used the extra weight allowance for FOOD. Reg suggested I put the TV I brought with me in the bedroom as it has cable in there as well as in the living room. I might - or I might keep it in the box and sell it as brand new (which it is). There are also dishes, cutlery, glasses, bedding. Oh yeah, the bed is a queen - not the little twin I had in Tas. The furniture is pretty new and they added a computer desk this year. The only downer is that there is only one phone jack and it is high on a wall under a print. Not bad if that is the only fault with the place!!! Oh yeah - I have art prints on my walls. Can't wait until I can figure out how to load pictures onto this computer at school.
Well, it's 10 PM. I can see why it would be easy to sit here all night as you can't tell how late it is by looking out the window :-)
