It is not easy to sleep when the sun doesn't go down until midnight and then comes up before I have any intention of stirring.
I phoned Roman, my new principal, and we made a date to meet at the school around 2:30. I made toast and then phoned Dan. He was putting the wheels on his skateboard and then we headed to the skatepark. On the way we stopped by a bookstore and looked at the crafts for sale. We checked out Arctic Foods but it was closed. I want to compare the price of butter - it's $5.39 at the North Mart.
I keep remarking how much I like this town. The people seem really friendly and the location is beautiful. It's easy to get around on the paved streets and occassional sidewalk. After lunch/supper (I made the same meal and Dan brought more bread) we watched the closing ceremonies of the Olympics. I then spent time on my own taking photos and mapping out a route from my new place to the high school.

Boy and Board
The skatepark is in front of the school, so Dan rode, I watched, and then Roman arrived. I had a tour of the school and we had a long talk about kids, attitudes, and new directions in education. It was great and made me feel like this is going to be a great year. Dan had met a kid on a bike and they had traded rides for a bit. He's seems like a sweet boy. His name is Peter and he'll be in Grade 4 this year. He stayed close by all the way back to the hotel and even chatted a wee bit.I keep remarking how much I like this town. Kids at Play
When I arrived at the high school I found Dan riding with a group of boys. They were sharing bikes and skateboards and it was really mellow. Dan asked if I wanted to try his board and I said I was afraid of falling and had a bad knee to boot. He said I could just try standing on it and so I went for it. Hey - I even started pushing myself around and once almost got both feet onto the board!
Contemplation
I took pictures and videos of the kids
Bike Boy
(including the "big kid") and then took off home. I hope to get a look inside the community greenhouse tomorrow. It is the largest in the world. What can I say - this place is really cool!!!
