We are on are way to an early departure from Honolulu, Oahu to Lihue, Kauai.  As always, we make our way to the airport so we have more than ample time to relax before our flight.  The flight was a quick one...about 35 minutes or so.  We left Honolulu at 8:49 a.m. and arrived in Kauai at 9:26 a.m.

After picking up our SUV, we made our way to our condo at Poipu Shores.  Let me tell you -- this place is gorgeous!!!  We are directly on the ocean, and there is non-stop wave activity.  Nancy spent most of the afternoon watching the ocean.  As I am writing this (Ady for Dee who is our normal author -- I've finally gotten rid of my jet lag and am on Hawaii time), I'm not sure how Ron & Nancy will get any sleep because of the noise of the waves slamming against the rocks.  Their room is on the ocean side.  It's beautiful during the day, and I hope it will be relaxing for sleep.  We'll have to let you know tomorrow!

After we settled in, we decided we needed to go get some lunch and provisions for our stay here.  We made our way down to a shopping/restaurant area and had lunch at Bubba's.  Dee & I had teryaki burgers; Nancy had a spinach salad, and Ron (who had a bad night with his stomach the night before) had a chicken sandwich.  After lunch, we visited a spouting rock that really didn't compare to the one we have in our backyard, and shopped some outdoor shopping booths.  We then made our way to a local grocery store for the necessary food and snacks we'll need for the next few days.

There are a lot of chickens on this island.  The shopkeeper told us they are like our racoons and squirrels; they just wander around eating pests like cockroaches and don't cause any problems.

Late in the afternoon we took a drive around the area and stopped to take pictures of a scenic overloook (of which I can't remember the name of!).  The island is having a marathon tomorrow that starts right down the street from us.  They were setting up for the event, putting up signage, etc.  I think it begins at 6:00 a.m. tomorrow, and there are about 1000 signed up for the half marathon and 430 for the full marathon.  They say they have room for more, but after Diamond Head, I don't think any of us are up to it!

After our drive we were ready for dinner.  We ate at Brennecke’s Beach Broiler which is close by our condo.  The food was very good -- Dee & I had a combo fish plate -- mahi mahi, ono and opah; Nancy had a ceasar salad and bowl of clam chowder, and Ron had a prime rib sandwich.  The food was very good, but the wait for it after ordering was long and the waiter was not so good.

That's about it for now.  Sorry to see the Bearcats lose their first game.  Everyone has been in bed for a while so I guess it's time for me to hit the hay.  It's 10:30 p.m. Hawaii time. Later!

P.S. - Nancy took a movie of the ocean view of our condo.  I hope the upload was a pretty big file, but I think you'll enjoy seeing/hearing what we are experiencing!
