It is Thursday, and we just completed our last travel day in Alaska.  We drove from Denali National Park, stopped in Palmer, AK prior to heading back to our accommodations in Anchorage.

We had breakfast in Denali at the Old Salmon Bake Restaurant.  Some of us had the sourdough pancakes and others had omelettes.  Our waitress was originally from Wisconsin, but is a waitress in Alaska during the summers and Hawaii in the winters.  Most of Alaskan hotels and restaurants will be closing down mid-September for the winter months.  We've noticed a considerable drop in the temperature since starting our journey.

We then began our travels heading south to Anchorage.  We wanted to stop at the Alaskan State Fair in Palmer, just north of Anchorage.  The fair seemed like a typical fair, with exhibits of animals, fruits, vegetables, food booths and rides.  We were amazed as to how big their vegetables were.  There was a pumpkin there that weighed over 900 pounds.  Just imagine how many pumpkin pies you could make with it.

We stayed approximately 2 hours, and we were ready to resume our trip to Anchorage Welcome to the Alaska State Fair

.  We decided to eat dinner, and we found a small restaurant called the Summit Café.  The girls had the salad, Sam - the crab pasta and Ron had a Philly Beef hoagie.

We are now at our final destination, repacking for our long journey back to the lower 48 - and wondering just how fast the past two weeks have flown by.  We all agree that Alaska is a beautiful state, with friendly people, and a nice place to vacation.  We recommend it as a fantastic state to vacation, and wish we would have had more time to explore other points of interest.

Tomorrow our plane leaves for Seattle, (a red eye), and we'll be back in our hometown of Cincinnati on Saturday morning.  We hope you have enjoyed our "Alaska Adventure."
