It's Friday morning as we begin our journey with, of course, a hearty breakfast of cheese omelets, gooey cinnamon buns, biscuits and gravy, yogurt, fresh fruit, bagels and juices (which comes with the price of our hotel room).

It's rather cold and rainy this morning as we headed out on the road to our next destination of Homer, AK, the halibut fishing capital of the world. Our first stop, mentioned in our "bible" The Milepost, which has proven to be a very valuable tool for locating anything from food, gas, scenic locations, etc.... mentioned a wood carving store with many carved animals which would provide a great photo opt for us "tourons." We couldn't resist, and so we stopped for a few minutes, and you'll see the results in the attached photos.

We went grocery shopping at Fred Meyers for some laundry detergent (note, we could not buy the store brand on sale for $3.99 because of some loyal P&G retiree who was with us, so we bought the Tide at $7.99 with Downy). We gassed up the van at $4.42/gallon with Ron's Fred Meyer's card. We resumed our trip, and we were in prime moose country - but no..... we did not see any moose.

We went all the way to the end of the spit of Homer, which is a long finger-like projection out to the Kachemak Bay to locate our final stop, which was appropriately named Land's End Resort Lodge. Check in wasn't until 4:00 p.m., so we back tracked to the Homer shopping area for lunch and some sight seeing. We stopped at Captain Patties, which was recommended as a great place for homemade clam chowder and fish (of course). Ady Riding the Wild Salmon

We did try the soup, but most of us went for the red-meat this time - excluding Sam who had some fish salad on a baguette.

We did a little souvenir shopping and asked about where the boats came in after their fishing trips to see if we could see some big fish hauls. The Salty Dawg Saloon (Matt- this bar reminded us of the Cabbage Key restaurant - it had dollar bills posted all over as well) was recommended, so we took off down the pier. On the way we saw a very cute sea otter fishing for crabs and eating it on his back as he leisurely swam down the shore.

We finally came to the fish location and saw a couple of halibuts which were big, but not as large as the ones in Seward. Also quite interesting was the guy filleting the fish, whose pictures is inserted. He was really "HOT", and if anyone wants us to get his number, let us know. Ron said this guy had nothing over him. LOL, LOL, LOL!!!!

After shopping, we went back to Land's End and checked into our 3 bedroom condo - three floors, on the edge of the bay with windows everywhere looking out over the water - across from the snow covered mountains. The view is quite spectacular. We noticed a sea otter casually doing the back stroke down the shoreline.

It was time to take off for dinner and an animal watch excusion. Sam and Ron spotted a bald eagle along the side of the road, about 20 feet or so. It was perched on a tree stump and looked very regal. After taking the pictures we all jumped back in the van and we were off to our "Wild Moose Chase" further down the road. Nancy had found a place that was noted for moose, so we were prepared for moose, and then guess what .... NO MOOSE!!!

So then we continued our hunt for food - we stopped at a local "Cafe Cupps", and they just ignored us (don't know why), so we left and came back to our resort for some grub.

Tomorrow we have planned to take a wildlife excursion to Gull Island and to an artsy place called Halibut Cove where they have numerous shops, and a restaurant where we will be having lunch. There are no cars allowed on the island, so this should be pretty neat.

For those folks who were worried about our "stealer", we have managed to shake him off our trail. Praise the Lord!!!

Good night and God Bless!!!!
