This morning we took off for breakfast at the Snow City Cafe. A local hot spot, which proved to be true with the amount of time we waited for a table. It was worth the wait, and we all enjoyed our meals. Afterwards, we took off for the Alaskan Native Heritge Center. At first we didn't think it would be worthwhile, but it proved to be very interesting. Learning of the Alaskan heritage was very different, and we learned that females were more dominant than the males (that's what I'm talking about). We then took off to see a Ulu Factory. A ulu is a type of knife the Alaskan's use a lot for chopping and fileting their fish. Afterwards we took off for a salmon run, which proved very disappointing. The only salmon there were a few dead ones, and a lot of small black fish swimming in the shallow waters.
After our fish viewing, we decided to try the Anchorage Market and Festival which was a series of food booths, art, jewelry and other art works. We browsed, but didn't find anything to purchase.
Our next stop was to find the church that my, Adrienne and Ron's Aunt Dolores was married in, circa 1950 called Holy Family. We did find the Church in downtown Anchorage. We took a few pictures to show her. We ran into a priest there who indicated that the present day Church was built around 1948, and she would probably have been married in the undercroft.
We were closing in on the dinner hour so decided to take the plunge on yet another new and exciting dining adventure at a restaurant called Simon and Seafort. It was considered "fine dining" and recommended in the books I had read. All of our dinners were quite delicious. Nancy said her Key Lime pie was to die for, and was the best she had ever tasted. We all agreed that if we ever were back in Anchorage in our lifetime this restaurant would be #1 on our list to revisit.
Our day was drawing to a close, so we headed home to our temporary abode. We finally met our "landlady Jill" and she was very nice. She made a few suggestions of places to visit, and had left us brochures to help with our planning.
Nancy wanted to see some wildlife, so we all piled into our white Dodge Grand Caravan and headed out. No animal sightings however. We stopped at the Fred Myers Grocery store for some "provisions" and again headed home for a "chill out" prior to turning in. Well the Olympics are on... it's 1:45 a.m. in Cincinnati and I'm very, very tired. Hope you all have a great Monday. Oh, BTW, Ft. Myers is on a hurricane watch OH MY! Hopefully it will bypass it. Do I have any volunteers wanting to check it out if it heads that way?????
