La Isla Tortuga in the Gulf of Nicoya is a good day trip getaway. We joined Calypso Cruises for some fun under the sun, which turned out to be too much sun. We arrived in the island around 11:30a from Punta Arenas, which was a little over an hour sail. And wow, the sun was beaming in full strength. From the time we boarded the catamaran, most guests had already stripped down to their swim suits. I definitely wanted to soak up some sun, and put in quality beach time….but holy moley, I lathered sunblock on me throughout the day, yet I still got sunburned….in the oddest places no less…ouch! I thought I was being careful and calculating, but I guess one can't get too careful, just bathe in sunblock several times a day already. The sand itself was soooo hot to walk on, which should have been the first indication that it was going to be sweltering. Still we made the most of it at….I think I have all the color I’m going to want and need for the summer season =)
