One day stop over in Stuttgart!  Since all the beds were booked out in Zurich until the 24th so we needed a place to crash for a night and what better place than the home of Mercedes Benz and Prosche!?  In all honesty, I don't think there's so much to see in Stuttgart but it does have the Mercedes museum...and that's worth the trip alone, seriously! =P  Still, not a bad place and nice kebabs too haha.

So arrival in the afternoon and we hiked all the way to our hostel with our hot!  Went out after putting our stuff away and walked down the main street (Königstraße).  Unfortunately, cos it was Sunday...pretty much EVERYTHING was closed =(...all except the asian take away place and some other kebab places =P so at least we weren't hungry haha.  Lots of shops though, reminded me a little bit of the Zeil in Frankfurt with the wide street and chestnut trees...saw a very cool violin duo busking on the corner too!  The main square of Stuttgart (Schlossplatz) was quite nice, one of the few places showing what Stuttgart used to be like but we didn't go into any of the museums or places so our visit was kinda limited.

Souter and I decided to continue on to the Mercedes Benz museum though and that turned out to be one of the best decisions yet! =D  Didn't look like much from the outside but once we got in, the place was AMAZING!  Even the attrium was cool...and the elevators! haha, you have to see the pictures, inside them was even cooler looking out of the little slit surround by the suede interior...mmmm =P.  Saw the first motor by Karl Benz that kick started everything, not only the first cars, but also motorbikes, motor boats, even the zeppelins!  The grandfather clock they called it (cos it kinda resembled one).  Saw the early cars which looked just like carriages and saw them develop into the classic vintage cars of the 30's and 40's...the ponton designs of the 50's and 60's and a whole heap of other famous Mercedes vehicles.  The pope mobile, a crazy cool painted bus from Argentina, firetrucks, the 4wd from Jurassic Park 2...too many to count!  Also saw the all the racing cars including the gull wing, the 300 SLR that blitzed everything in the 50's and the original silver arrows that gave Mercedes its distinctive silver colour.  Did you know that the car was supposed to be white originally but when it weighed in 1kg too heavy, the team sanded off the white painted to make it lighter and exposed the silver aluminium surface!  Also, Mercedes was a car named after the daughter of a guy racy DMG cars under that name and when he won pretty much EVERYTHING, the company DMG decided to use it as their brand.  OOooooh and Mercedes gave birth to diesel, the supercharger and air bags!   There was also the car that could run like 2000km on one tank of diesel (the engine was a pump limited to 1HP =P) and the solar car which won all these races, although in the movie showcasing it, the competition looked liked little homemade pushcarts with a solar panel on Mercedes better have won it!! To top it off, the audio guide we were given (FOR FREE) was awesome, it would give you an introduction to the sections of the museum as soon as you walked in and you don't even have to press numbers, just point it at the exhibit and off it goes.  It also had head phones so you didn't need to hold it AND we got a Merc lanyard for free XD.

So my advice, if you're in Stuttgart and you're a gear head (or even if your not), definitely go to the Mercedes Benz museum and if that's not enough for ya...the Porsche museum is just a short train ride away =P Apart from them though, there might not be too much else to do (I'm sorry Mo XD) be fair, we were only there for a day so who knows, maybe it would've surprised us! =D
