Balci and I rolled into the hostel Wednesday morning in Mendoza to find Andy recovering from a duzzy from the previous night. The hostel was absolutely filled with chicks, Balci and I could hardly contain ourselves. The girl to guy ratio was 'awesomely out-of-control'. Unfortunately quite a few left that morning (at least breakfast had nice views), so the ratio dropped to 'still-way-in-our-favor'.
Andy had a good story. When he got into the Mendoza bus terminal the day before, he was rearranging his stuff when some guy came up to start talking to him. While the dude was talking to him, he just happened to turn around to look at his stuff for a second, just as a second guy was grabbing his small backpack (had passport and all that good stuff in there). Classic distract-and-grab robbery, except they timed it wrong. The second guy takes off running with Andy's stuff and Andy bolts after him. Andy not only catches up to the dude and grabs his bag back, but he then levels the guy once in the face. He said it was the sweetest gratification. He said he would have continued beating the shit out of the guy, but he was worried about his big bag that he left behind. Cops showed up several minutes later and the guys had long gotten away. So in the end justice was only semi-done but Andy had all his stuff.
Wednesday was spent chilling out by the pool and chatting with people and checking out the city a bit. We met a ton of really cool people from all over the place. We arranged for a crew of 16 of us to go wine tasting on bikes for Thursday.
You can only imagine how wine tasting on bikes goes. Hilariously fun and very injury prone. We had split up unintentionally since some people were slacking on got on the wrong bus. It was a bit of a mess to do tasting for 11 of us, so we decided to start a slush fund where everyone put in 20 pesos and we would just buy bottles wine and do tasting of our own style. By tasting of our own style, I mean we bought a case of wine, popped the corks in the parking lot, and got our drink on. It was actually slightly more classy then it sounds. It was a nice parking lot. Oh and we had wine glasses. We left the first winery feeling pretty happy. After the second winery, we were starting to feel ballsy on our bikes. I totally bit it while fucking around. Lisa, this super cool Aussie girl, also bit it. We had a couple casualties, but nothing some pain killing wine can't handle. Check that... a lot of wine pain killing power.
We only had time to hit up a total of three wineries before we had to return our bikes. The idea was to head back to the hostel and cook up a huge asado while continuing to drink.... of course. Nick, another super cool Aussie, Stefan and I worked the grill. Everyone was boozing their faces off. By the time we left, I think everyone was well on their way. The last thing I remember before blacking out was hanging out with Lisa with some other people she knew. We were still at the hostel, probably around 1am. Balci, Stefan, Andy and everyone had already left for the bars down the street. I have vague spotted memory after that of being in a bar, then sitting on a couch outside at some other bar, and thats it. Oh and there was a tequila shot in there somewhere.
Needless to say, I was leveled. I was filled in on the details the next day. I was so hammered I didn't make the move early enough on the girl that I wanted to, Lisa, and she instead started making out with some chick. If I actually had my wits bout me (and was actually conscience, as I said I don't remember any of this) I would have joined in on the fun. Apparently I'm not too bright when I am in a blacked out state. Some how Andy, Balci, Stefan, and Nick found me later on. This is supposedly when we were hanging out on the couches at some bar. Apparently a joint appeared and we were smoking that on the couches outside (confirmed by photos on my camera, damn) on the main bar street. Yea I had my camera on me, yes it survived the night... thankfully. We apparently got home at 5am.
I don't think anyone that we were hanging with was below the intoxication of 'shit-faced because we have been drinking wine since 1pm'. I was completely leveled the next day. I haven't had a hangover like that in a really long time. Really really long time. I didn't get out of bed all day except to try and put a bit of food down the hatch. By the time Balci and I had to leave the next night, I was still a mess. I didn't really eat anything all day since I couldn't stomach it and my blood sugar must have been really low because on the taxi ride to the bus station I felt faint and nauseous, my whole body was kind of vibrating and shaking. Twenty minutes after we were on the bus, I felt the sudden urge and I had just made it to the bathroom before I booted, bathroom door still open (thats how close it was). Proceed to close the bathroom door for round two.
It was great hanging out with Andy and Stefan again, we had a fucking blast. I was kind of bummed that we couldn't hang out longer in Mendoza since everyone else was and the wine festival was only really kicking off in a day. But Balci and I have to head to Cordoba to meet up with Aug and Tom who are flying into Cordoba tomorrow.
