Entry 24 of 55 | show all | print this entry

Yesterday (Saturday) was super relaxing.  I've been waking up really early and it kind of blows since I'm not used to it at all.  So it was nice to be able to sleep in a bit.  I went to lunch over to Mema's place (my dad's friend that I went hiking with two weeks ago).  We hung out, talked, and she cooked a delicious risotto.  I spent the afternoon  catching up on my journal and doing some reading.  It was nice and relaxing.

So today there was a small group of us that went white water rafting.  We got picked up at 6:30am by the rafting company in San Jose and then took a two hour ride towards the Atlantic to the Pacuare River (stands for hummingbird).  The Pacuare river has class III and IV rapids.  The actual rafting time was four hours (including a 1 hour lunch), so we get a lot of rafting time.

To sum it up, it was beautiful and ton of fun.  The water wasn't that cold and the rapids were fucking sweet.  We had six of us per raft plus the guide.  Chelsea and I shared a raft  with four other Americans that were there on vacation.  I sat front left and loved every second of it.  Sitting in the front I think is the best since you get the most wet and you see exactly what you are getting thrown into.  On the large class IV rapids, its like a roller coaster ride except you get totally tossed and have to hold on with your feet as you paddle through the rapids.  We had a sweet guide too.  He was able to spot iguanas and all kinds of other hidden stuff.  They filmed the movie Congo on the Pacuare River and I could see why.  There are canyons, waterfalls, jungle, and indigenous people all around.

It was a beautiful day (we really lucked out with the sunny weather, its been raining a lot in this region) and it was a great work out.  My shoulders totally hurt.
