I took yesterday to lounge around and recover from the hike. It was a nice relaxing sunday, but I added some work to it by studying a bit more Spanish for the Spanish placement test that I took today.
So there are about 130 of us gringos here in the Spanish program. I am taking classes at Silvia's University, which is called the University of Veritas. It's an art and design school that also teaches Spanish. It mainly caters to study abroad programs from the US, so its mostly college students.
I used to get a bit of the jitters on my first day of classes, but this was not the case today. It probably has to do with the fact that I have been here for a couple of weeks now, have a few friends and have been able to get settled in. Pretty much all of the students arrived a couple of days ago, got thrown into their home stays and have no real clue of what is going on.
I met a lot of people today and as it turns out they are from all over the place (within the US). The first demographic that I noticed immediately is that the chicks way out number the dudes.... score, jackpot, hatrick, money, and yahtzee! Seriously of the 130 students, there couldn't be more than 15 or 20 dudes. Am I in heaven? The second demographic that I noticed ties in nicely with the first demographic, there are a lot of pretty girls. I am immediately regretting that I am only sticking around for a month. I guess it's tough to live in paradise all the time. The third trend is that everyone seems to be quite cool and friendly. It should be a fun month.
There was a written part and an oral part to placement exam. The exam was kind of tough and I felt unsure about a lot of it. Turns out I got placed into Intermediate II! This is exactly where Silvia thought I should be, so it worked out quite well. There was no real class today, just placement exam, orientation, and a tour of the city.
Its Monday night and the spot to go out is El Cortel. It's a big bar with a dance floor with a live band. Rike, Sara, Dani and I met up for some brewskies before hand and then headed over to El Cortel. Absolutely packed, pretty good time, late night, and getting up tomorrow morning is pretty much gonna suck.
