I arrived in Cairns Wednesday. Cairns reminds me of Hawaii. Of course it is not an island but the topography and greenery are similar. Wednesday night I celebrated the full moon at Gilligans. Gilligans is the big hostel in town. Actually its very nice very modern and very festive. I chose not to stay there for that very reason(festive). It was a very fun evening. Thursday I went to Palm Cove, which was absolutely beautiful. Gorgeous coastline. I would love to stay there but there are no hostels in Palm Cove. So ts downtown Cairns for me. Today i went to Yorkys Point beach. The beach was deserted except for the kite boarders(pics will follow). Kite boarding is basically snow boarding on the ocean but a large kite is what propels you along. I spoke with a local who filled me in on all the details of kite boarding. She has been kite boarding 4 months and can only do the basics. So much for a day lesson, I would love to try, it looks like so much fun. Another thing about the beaches are the warning signs. "Beware of Crocodiles and stingers". Evidently there are "deadly" jellyfish here and basically you can not swim here about half the year due to the buggers.

Its funny about Cairns. Downtown Cairns has a basic beach but at low tide it was like Thailand, the water was waaaay out from the beach. At high tide it looks normal but at low tide its like almost 1/4 mile from the sandy beach to the waterline. Very odd to me. There are numerous tour agent here just like Thailand but the prices are like 4-5 times the price.

I would love to head out on an adventure but at this point $ and time its prohibitive, my budget is so busted!!!! I feel like I should seize the opportunity but at the same time have to remind myself i have no job! I know when I get home I will have some regrets. My next trip to Australia will include vists to Ayers Rock, Alice Springs, Darwin, and Perth. I hate Im so close but so far. I would love to see what has been referred to as the "real" Australia. Granted the cities I have been to are wonderful and are Australia I have not really seen the countryside. So next time!

I must say I do love the Ozzies. Everyone is so nice, laid back and happy-go-lucky. I am not too surprised though as I have met lots of Ozzies on prior trips and this trip and they have all been nice.

Good evening to you all and we'll chat later!!!!
