I arrived yesterday in Zagreb via 3 hour ride on the equivilant of a city bus(about 15 stops) from Cesky Krumlov, to the Prague metro, metro to airport, 3 hour wait at the airport, almost 2 hr plane ride. Adventures in travel.
Luckily i sat next to a local travel agent on the flight. He assisted me in finding a room, we met for dinner then i got the city tour. He is very knowledgeable of the history of the country and the city. Zagreb is beautiful in its own way, its a bit decayed, but still charming. The architecture is heavily infulenced by the Austrians. It has lots of Baroque, and some Renaissance buildings. Most of the roofs are terra cotta and there is not much color on the buildings, other than the occasional yellow. Today is another rainy day so i will find a museum or two to tour.
It seems today is the last day of school. The streets are filled with high school aged kids, they are all dressed according to their schools, matching t shirts, hats etc. They have a whistle in one hand and a beer in the other celebrating the end of the school year. Its quite the site, stay tuned for pics at a later date.
Speaking of pics i will upload a few more under the Cesky Krumlov entry.
