Dear Redskins,
Sawatdii from Bangkok! It's the fourth quarter and I am practically clinging to this PC in hopes that you keep your lead and wishing I could have seen Chris Rogers' interception and perhaps some pieces of the puzzle being put together.
In order to express my undying tormented love for you, I would like to let you know the extent of my efforts to watch your televised game here in Bangkok Thailand. The first step involved my good fortune of reading of the Skins game being televised here on a local Thai channel. True Sports #2. Who would have thought anybody in Bangkok cared about American football, let alone a game between two (with all due respect and loyalty) mediocre NFL teams. WELL LET ME TELL YOU! There's one gal here! :)
Anyways, I set out this Sunday morning to find where you would be televised, stumble into the "farang" (foreigner) bar street and after many rejections find a bar that will televise the game at midnight. I proceed to book a room next door for about $20 and await the stroke of midnight.
The game begins and the opening drive is fantastic! As the lone person in this bar called "Madrid" I am free to rejoice with a phone call to T :)!! However, 1 hour into the game, the bar says it's closing time. 1am and without any customers besides me and my gingerale, it's cleanup time for most bars. I walk down the block, dejected and urgently needing True Sports #2 when I hear thumping music from a club nearby...actually many clubs nearby. I see a disco/dance club with a big screen (Toad's booty cam size) playing a soccer match. The club is an oasis of safety because I find myself sandwiched between "P***Y Cafe" and "P***YCat" Alley and a lot of old Buddha shaped foreigners ooogling young Thai women lethargically dancing on stage. It's probably the worst pole dancing I've seen. I guess the heat gets to them too. Anyways, I hand the club waiter 20 Baht (66 cents) and ask him to change the channel from futbol to FOOTBALL. Chelsea has already tied Man U! No one should care anymore about today's futbol in my opinion. The waiter puts the game on!!! Oh the joy. Now eeeeveryone bumpin in this club can delight in the skins right?
Wrong. Another rival mean-spirited waiter proceeds to change the channel back to soccer saying people like soccer more. I said I know...but everyone here is too drunk to care and would rather get jiggy with each other than watch TV! Being sober, solo, and sorely needing some redskins, I make the other waiter change it back. It's back and forth until finally, I relent for fear of making a scene (something very un-Thai like).
Well here I am, 3am and like a nerd, I'm typing away while watching the NFL.com play-by-play...sympathizing with T at work. ANDDDD I'm sensing a victory!!! Good night! Is that a 2 game win streak? Sweeet. I love you Marcus Washington!!!!
Love,
Me
