After our Phuket Island adventures which also included elephant trekking (for those who were wondering, elephants don't eat peanuts like they do in Dumbo. I tried but got rejected. But they definitely enjoy munching on whole bananas!) and white water rafting in a jungle, we arrive at my eventual place of work, the Life Home Project.
Life Home Project is an HIV/AIDS Outreach Center and Orphanage/Shelter located on a smaller island off of the southern tip of Phuket called Ko Sirae. The taxi ride to the Center was a little nervewracking as I had absolutely no idea of the condition of the place where I'd be spending the next 4 months of my life. We drove by mangrove forests, tree covered hills, and great scenic spots of the beach and passed the "Phuket International Dog School" with an enormous puppy dog paper mache creation out front (who knows what that is) and thatched houses on stilts ( i was a little worried i'd be living on that) But soon thereafter we arrived at a cute little almost-resort-like complex and entered into my new home!
