Where I stayed
After the fast boat ride, we arrived in Bergen around 8 p.m. Hotels in Bergen are incredibly expensive, (actually, everything in all of Norway is incredibly expensive!) so we found a 2 bedroom apartment in a residential area where we stayed for the evening. The apartment was up some very steep hills, but actually not very far from the waterfront once we figured out where we were and the best way to get down the hill.
The waterfront area of Bergen, called the Bryggen, is a Unesco World Heritage Site. It is a very atmospheric area with wooden structures filled with shops and lots of little alleyways between them. Unfortunately, since we were there on Sunday the fish market was closed. We went to the Hanseatic Museum and enjoyed walking around the town.
< Tourist Information Center! which had beautiful murals on the walls.
In the late afternoon we boarded the Hurtgruten coastal ferry and started the journey that had brought us all to Norway.
