Two weeks before Melanie started her new job, we took a few days as tourists in London.  We found cheap flights on EasyJet and used Chris' accumulated Marriott points to stay at the wonderfully located Grosvenor Square hotel.  We did a lot of walking around, riding the buses, and generally exploring the city.

The hotel was just around the corner from Grosvenor Square, where the American Embassy was situated.  One nice surprise was the memorial park and statues on this square - all commemorating the U.S. and Allies success in WWII, and memorializing those who gave their lives in the process.

One of the biggest surprises was the British Library.  The exhibit there includes the original handwritten Alice in Wonderland manuscript, original classic rock lyrics, Da Vinci's notebooks and other amazing papers for one to view.

We also discovered excellent inexpensive Indian food close to St. Pancreas Station, ate at a Gordan Ramsay restaurant and met up with some of Melanie's former colleagues for a nice evening out of drinks and Asian cuisine.

These five days without any definitive plans were among the most relaxing and enjoyable we could imagine before returning to the grind of a 9 to 5 job.  We did a lot of window shopping, enjoyed free concerts in various churches, sat in the choir for a service at Westminster Abbey (thanks to one of Chris' watch contacts), had tea when we felt like it, woke up when we felt like it, wandered down whatever streets looked interesting - and saw a few tourist sites long the way.

Enjoy the pictures!

Great getaway to London. Used to go there twice a year. Melanie, where have you started work?
