Our friend, LeeAnne, was back in Amsterdam again for work, so we decided to take an overnight trip to Brussels. Chris picked us up at work Friday at 5:00 and we were on the road. By 7:30 we were in Brussels eating mussels at Leon's - a very touristy restaurant with great food. LeeAnne, who is NOT a beer drinker, had a raspberry lambic and actually enjoyed it! We even found a chocolate shop that was open when we left Leon's at 9:30. It was the beginning of a relaxing weekend of walking, talking, eating, and shopping.
On Saturday we walked all over Brussels. We found several outdoor markets including a huge flea market, a crafts market, and a market with gorgeous (expensive) antiques. We also happened into a **few** chocolate shops along the way - each with better and more beautiful chocolate than the last
We found a great place for lunch at the Museum of Musical Instraments. The museum is in a beautiful turn of the century building with a terrific restaurant on the top floor - with great views of Brussels from its terrace. We decided we'd rather explore the city than the museum, so after a stop in the gift shop we were on our way, in search more chocolate, shops and markets. Around 5:00, 24 hours after we started, we headed back to the car (with a first in the grocery store for Trappist cheese and beer) and on our way back to Amsterdam. It was a quick trip, but lots of fun and a nice break from Amsterdam.
