Where I stayed
Day 30 - 05/01/09
Caught the bus this morning to Montevideo. Was only a short 2 hour journey which cut through lush green agricultural land.
When I arrived in the city, had to look around for a hostel, my first choice was fully booked so I a bit of a trek to another hostel which thankfully had a bed, the Hostel Montevideo. Spent most of the afternoon just wandering around the city. Visited the water front and the old town on this rather overcast day.
I luckily arrived in Montevideo on the first day of Carnival, so I spent the evening watching the precession of samba drummers, dancers and flag wavers. Great to watch the different bands and groups slowly meandering down the closed streets of the capital. Watched the carnival for many hours before returning to hostel for a sleep.
Not sure what to do tomorrow, I'm in two minds to stay in Montevideo for another night or maybe move onto a beach town further up the coast towards the Brazilian border. I'll sleep on it and decide in the morning.
Day 31 - 06/01/09
Another Mosquito massacre last night. These little critters are making my life hell already and I haven't even reached the Amazon yet. I'll be putting my net up tonight.
I had another long walk around the city again today. The sun was shining today after a rather dark and overcast day yesterday, was nice to see the old town again in a brighter light. Went to the mausoleum of the famous Uruguayan, Agigas In Independencia square.
Another night of carnival in the city tonight, decided to relax at the hostel. Watched some of the carnival on the TV, same affair as last night, didn't miss anything really, was glad of a reasonably early night. Going to move on tomorrow, but I'm still unsure where to go. Will hit a beach town somewhere north along the coast I think.
