Where I stayed

5 continents, 21 countries, 20 capital cities, 10 mountains conquered, 32 UNESCO world heritage sites visited, 6 man-made and natural wonders of the world ticked off, countless national parks, over 130 different guesthouses and hotels, 45 islands, 37 flights, 1 helicopter flight, 60 airports, 15 airlines, 57,059 air miles, 60 passport stamps, a 24,454km drive around the gigantic Australian continent, 4,960km drive around majestic New Zealand, 8000 photographs, hospital visits in 5 countries, one near fatal illness, hundreds of mosquito bites, 4 bouts of food poisoning, narrowly missed 3 natural disasters and all in 11 months! I need a holiday!

I'm now back at home in cold damp Cheshire. My nomadic ways have been suppressed for a while to enjoy the comforts of home. Not for too long though! I'm off again in a little over 3 weeks to begin my South American odyssey. I'm flying to Mendoza in Argentina in the first week of January. I thought I'd start 2009 by climbing the biggest mountain on the continent, Aconcagua on the Argentinian-Chile border. It's only 6962 metres! No doubt a good way to burn off those excess pounds after the indulgence of Christmas.

A little bit strange being back in UK after so long. Not a lot has changed really accept for the economic crisis which unravelled while I was driving around Australia. It's all doom and gloom with people losing jobs, house prices in free-fall and general discontent. To be honest I'm glad I'm leaving again soon. Hopefully by the time I return home (if I decide to come home that is!) sometime in 2010/11 things will have settled down a little, just hope the pound doesn't lose to much ground against the world currencies.
This is the Mountain Nomad signing off until the 7th January. South America here I come!!!
