Dropped my hire car off this morning at the ferry terminal. Driven 2554km around the south island, which including my north island drive brings the total kilometres for New Zealand to 4960! Not very environmentally friendly I know!

Saw in the News paper this morning that 328mm of rain fell in 24 hours when I was stuck Takaka the day before yesterday. Wow, that's a lot of rain! If this amount of rain fell in the UK it would be a national disaster.

Caught the early afternoon ferry from Picton to Wellington, a 92km voyage through the Queen Charlotte Sound and across the turbulent Cook Strait. The crossing was very calm, so spend most of the journey on the top deck enjoying the views of the sound.

My friend picked me up from the ferry terminal in Wellington. The sun is shining and there's no wind today in "Windy Welly", so we went for a cheeky beer by the water and sat out in the late afternoon sun.
