The tramp is officially over with 107km covered in Mount Aspiring and Fiordland national parks. A good effort I reckon! It certainly wasn't easy but very enjoyable and well worth the effort. Defiantly the best way to appreciate New Zealand's majestic landscapes is to hit the trails, I don't think there's any other way.
We only had a short 3km, 45 minute walk to "The Divide" this morning in the pouring rain. I think we're just getting out in time before the weather changes for the worse. A pre-arranged mini-bus took us back to civilisation in Queenstown. The bus ride was a beautiful 4 hours on the Milford sound road before we arrived back in picturesque Queenstown by lake Wakatipu. We asked to be dropped off at the airport where I've picked up another hire car for 10 days to explore the snow capped peaks of the south island. Unfortunately my hire car's back seat doesn't fold down, which poses a problem for sleeping. The options are to recline the front seat fully back or sleep cramped up on the back seat in the fetal position. Will have to give both variations a crack but either way it's going to be horribly uncomfortable I imagine. I nearly forgot, my friend left me the tent so if the car options are painful, the tent it is. Anyway for tonight I've booked myself into the Hippo lodge to wash my rancid clothes and have my first shower in 9 days. My Next opportunity after tonight to sleep in a bed will be at my friends place in Wellington in 10 days time before I fly to Fiji.
I dropped my friend off at the airport, he's returning to work tomorrow back in Wellington . I'm glad I don't have that concern for a while :o) Tonight I plan to stuff my face with high calorie food and maybe indulge in a couple of beers too. I think I deserve it!
