Another boring day due to the weather. Wanted to do a trek on Mount Taranaki but due to the dark ominous cloud I thought they'd be no point, wouldn't have been able to see a thing. So I drove to Foxton beach where I'm staying tonight. I'm only just over 100km north of Wellington after today's drive.

As the sun was setting on the beach, a Maori family brought a big bag of fireworks onto the beach. So I watched the free firework display from the comfort of the car. The kids were throwing fireworks at each other while the parents stood and watched, slightly dangerous but the adults didn't batter an eyelid.

Tomorrow I reach Wellington where I meet a couple of friends I haven't seen for a number of years. Will be good to catch up after so long. Staying in Wellington for a few nights before flying to the south island to begin the tramp.
