Had a lay-in this morning. Started driving at 7am, which is late for me. Didn't sleep too well last night, kept on waking up to turn the car engine on for some heat. Wish I'd brought my goose down sleeping bag travelling but I took the decision to leave it at home due to much weight in my backpack, nevermind.

Arrived in sunny Canberra after a foggy start to the day. The capital can be a hot and dry dust bowl in the summer months but today's weather was very pleasant. The Ozzies take the piss out of Canberra and most of them have never been, but I quite like this pictureque city. The whole city was planned from scratch, I could certainly tell the layout had been well designed as I drove through Australia's ultra clean capital . Visited a couple of elevated lookouts on hills surrounding the city. Canberra looks even more impressive from above with it's lake and unique parliament house at it's heart. I'm surprised how green the city is too, I heard about the bush fires which ravaged Canberra only 5 years ago but the surrounding area has appeared to have quickly recovered.  Talked to a guy at one of the lookouts for over an hour, was actually quite nice to have a decent conversation. I normally talk to my Corolla but she doesn't talk back very often. Think all this solitude is turning me crazy :o) Had a walk around town and stopped at the unique parliament house for a nosy. Left the capital by mid-afternoon, my next major stop is Mount Kosciuszko.

Hit the 20,000km milestone today!! Can't really believe I've driven so far. Doesn't feel like I've driven half way around the earth, which is what I've effectively done with the earth's circumference being 40,000km at the equator. Probably still have at least another 4,000km to go before I reach Sydney. This is well and truly turning into the mother of all road trips!

Parked up by Lake Jindabyne for sunset and some dinner. A beautiful lake with several bush covered islands in the centre of the crystal blue waters. The village of Jindabyne sits on the banks, looks like an idyllic place to live. Excellent if you like boating and the great outdoors, reasonably close to Canberra too. The views at sunset overlooking this beautiful lake were completely awesome. The sunset behind the islands with the light creating a rainbow of colours against the low clouds.
