Extended my hire car today. Couldn't bear to see my little Toyota go back to Hertz and be abused by another tourist. A further 8 days of feral living starts tomorrow along the east coast. No real plans for this next week which is unusual for me but there are few things I need to see. The Whitsunday islands and Frasier island are defiantly a must.
Went to Tugun beach on the Gold coast for a few hours this afternoon. A beautiful warm day with a cool sea breeze. For me, the most quintessential Australian beach I've visited so far. There was a raised lifeguard platform, beach flags, surfers in the swell and the high-rise apartments of Surfers Paradise as the backdrop. Such a stereotypical Australian beach scene.
Went to my first surf club in the late afternoon for a drink over looking the ocean and the distant high rises. The Australian Rules footy grand final was on the TV. The favourites Geelong lost against the Hawthorns, a massive upset apparently. Only the second game Geelong have lost all season.
Returned back to Brisbane and went out in the city for something to eat. The Brisbane skyline at night is quite a sight, with the skyscrapers and bridges lit up like Christmas trees. Didn't really expect the cityscape of Brisbane to be so impressive.
