Watched sunrise on the most eastern point of the continent this morning, near the Byron Bay lighthouse. Stopped off at a few beaches and touched the pacific waters as I did the Indian waters at the start of my journey. Then went into town for a bit of a wander.
I left Byron and took a scenic inland drive through the Rainforests and mountains of northern New South Wales. The forests are so beautiful and magical here. I took a short walk on a rainforest trail in Mount Warning national park. Some massive Gum trees with thick vines strangely the trunks and colourful bush turkeys pecking in the leaf litter, such an atmospheric place. This forest is like my childhood vision of what a rainforest would look like, with palms, ferns and big ancient buttressed trees, could have quite happily stayed in this forest for days just wandering around aimlessly.
Dragged myself away from the forest and headed north to Brisbane through the rolling green hills and quaint rural villages near the border with Queensland. The landscape and rural life here reminds me a little of home.
When I arrived in Brisbane it was a bit of a shock system. I'm certainly back in a busy modern western society. Strange to drive on the big four lane motorways again with bumper to bumper traffic. I'm really not use to this frantic pace after well over 14,000 kilometres of steady solitary bush driving.
My corolla has really done me proud. Not one problem throughout the entire journey. Myself and my beloved Toyota have finally made it to Brisbane and in one piece! Staying with a friend in the suburbs for a few nights before I return the car. Will be so nice to have a bed and easy access to a shower. I'll certainly be making the most of these novelties over the next couple of days. Glorious!!
