Day 176 - 15/08/08

The bungalow was available at 8am, so I moved my stuff in and examined my mosquito bites from the night. I was sleeping in a hut with open wicker walls so the mosquito's had a feast. I even slept fully clothed as a precaution but they still got me through my clothes. I didn't get one bite on my previous stay on the island, so last night my luck must of finally ran out. Darn mosquito's!!

Day 177 - 16/08/08

Booked a flight on the internet today from Mataram, Lombok to Surabaya in Java. I leave the Gili's in 3 days. Needed to book something, wouldn't have left the island otherwise. Could have easily stayed here until my visa ran out.

The Gili's and Indonesia in general have been invaded by the French. So many French travellers and holiday makers in the country at the moment. I really don't know why? I French guy told me the Lonely Planet guide for "Bali & Lombok" is one of the best sellers in France at the moment. One of the locals told me the islands were full of Italian's last year, strange!

Day 178 - 17/08/08

As usual on the Gili Islands nothing to report, lazy days!

One of the reasons I like the Gili's so much is the pleasant climate. Humidity is low, the temperature is around 32 degrees in the day and 22 at night. In the evening you can wear jeans and not feel too hot, some night it's even a bit chilly when a strong wind blows in across the water. Also, after a while you get to know everyone on the island (Locals and travellers). It feels like you're a part of the community and have been here for years, which is nice.

Today is the 63rd anniversary of Indonesian's independence, so there was a big parade around the island. All the kids dressed up in costume, some in traditional Indonesian clothes and the occasional kid in a Spiderman or Superman outfit. I was sat in a restaurant on the beach when the precession passed. A colourful affair with music, banners and song.

Day 179 - 18/08/08

I leave the island early tomorrow morning, it's going to be a long, long day. So I decided to have another relaxing day of doing nothing (not unusual, I know).

Had to call the tax man this evening. A bill is being sent in the post, Ouch! Nothing more to say, I'm feeling slightly cheesed off :o(

I need a drink!
