The bus takes 7 hours to reach Sibu and the boat only takes just over 4.5 hours. So I opted for the express boat, but it was hassle getting from central Kuching to the boat terminal outside the city at 6.30am this morning. Jumped in a people carrier driven by some random guy, as it looked like the bus wasn't going turn up. There's only one boat to Sibu a day and I didn't want to miss it. The boat left at 8.30am from the docks and I made it with plenty of time to spare.
Arrived in Sibu early afternoon and found a place to stay directly opposite the docks called the Riverview hotel. The location is handy as I need to catch another early boat tomorrow, up river to Kapit, so I only have a 50 metre walk in the morning.
Visited the goddess of mercy Pagoda on the river which was build by wealthy Chinese merchants in the late 19th century
My hotel room is invested with mosquito's, my arch-enemies of the animal kingdom! Must of killed twenty plus of these hideous creatures before going to bed. I've become a bit of an expert at exterminating them, I've developed an accurate hand-clapping technique, I've had a lot of practice. Just hope I got all of them.

Sunset on the River Rejang
. A colourful and ornate building with seven tiers. Inside, the usual temple paraphernalia, icons, insense burning, offerings and two stone baths with a couple of dozen tortoises. The Pagoda is the only real tourist site in Sibu. Not a lot to see or do in this town really. In the evening watched the sunset behind the Pagoda by the river as fisherman were trying to catch their dinner. Then headed for the night market for a look around. My hotel room is invested with mosquito's, my arch-enemies of the animal kingdom!
