Went on a day trip to Luzern today. Caught the train from Zurich central at midday. Train only took 45 minutes to travel the 75 kms. Switzerland isn't that big really, most of the country is covered with mountains so the cities are in the lowlands and reasonably close together. You can visit most of the big cities in under 3 hours by train.

The best way to describe Luzern is "typical Switzerland", it satisfies all the stereotypes you'd associate with a typical Swiss city. The architecture, the lake and rivers, the cow bells for sale in souvenir shops and of course numerous outlets selling chocolate, cheese and pen knives. Had a stroll around the lake for an hour or so and then visited some of the historical buildings and bridges.

Headed back to Zurich in the late afternoon to watch the second semi-final between Spain and Russia. Lots of crazy Russian's swigging vodka from the bottle which they somehow smuggled in. Don't know how they did it, as you're frisked and searched before entering the FanZone. Sneaky Russians! Pretty uneventful game but the Spanish deserved to win. So it's a Spain, Germany final. Really hope the Spanish win!
