Went to New Delhi train station this morning and booked my ticket to Agra on the super fast Shatabdi express. It only takes a little over 2 hours to travel the 200km, which is very fast for Indian standards. Going on Wednesday morning at 6am and returning in the evening, so I'll get a full day at the Taj Mahal and Agra fort.
Also visited Jama Masjid this morning, which is the largest mosque in India and was originally build to allow all the Muslims in Delhi to pray in one place. It's an impressive sandstone and marble structure with two massive towers either side of the dome which you an access via tiny spiral staircases. Once at the top there're great views of the city, you can really see the sprawl of Delhi from this high vantage point. The city looks pretty much the same which ever direction you look accept for the odd high rise building, primarily around the business district
After leaving the mosque thought I'd walk over to the Red Fort to have a look around but unfortunately it's closed on Monday's, so it's now on the agenda for tomorrow.
In the afternoon went to India gate which was build by the British as a memorial for all the Indian soldiers who fought and died in war. Thousands of names are inscribed on this sandstone monument which is surrounded by parks, it's the biggest open space I've seen in Delhi so far and it's a nice break from the build up pandemonium of the rest of the city.
Bought a shirt yesterday in Connaught place and a T-shirt today, finally managing to replenish some of my clothes after the washing disaster in Kerala. Branded clothes are so cheap here, bought a Levi's shirt for a tener and a Gas T-shirt for twelve quid. I wish I could carry more stuff.
I met a crazy Russian guy yesterday at the hotel and bumped into him again today, it's his last night in India, so there's going to be a party on the roof of the Hotel tonight, I was asked to join them. Due to the lack of cups I was forced to drink G&T's from my camping bowl which was a novelty, sat on the roof till the early hours.
