Travelled from Fort Kochi to Alleppey today on the bus, it's only a short 65km ride which takes around one and a half hours to this primary backwater town. Alleppey (Alappuzha) is very different to Kochi, the best way to describe Alleppey is that it's more Indian than the European feel of Kochi, a little more chaotic and a lot more bustling.
Found a cheap guest house in the centre of town and then organised a backwaters trip on a houseboat for tomorrow around the Alleppey area. Set off at around 11am tomorrow and return at 9am the following day. The pictures of the houseboat look really impressive, you get a kitchen and shower room, two bedrooms, a large sun deck and a crew of three. Three freshly cooked meals are provided, all for the cost of a night in a crappy Travel Lodge in the UK.
