Baranco camp

Shira Plateau camp is full of tents, people and is a bit noisy, glad to leave really, did get a reasonable night sleep though due to the flat ground. Today was quite a long day with a trek to Lava tower which is 4650m, that's nearly as high as Mount Blanc ! I reckon today's hike is around 12-14 miles.
Could defiantly feel the altitude today, although I didn't have any altitude sickness symptoms, which is relief as you don't know how your body will react until you get to these heights. Even had a cig at 4650m. You could be the fittest person in the world but the altitude could effect you in bad way and the only answer is to descend .
When we set off from Lava tower the cloud rolled in again but rather than rain it was a snow storm with thunder and lighting, we needed to descend from 4650m to 3950m to camp. Myself and one of guides ran down the mountain over taking everyone on the trail, I knew the snow would soon turn to rain. I was right, about a minute from the camp the heavens opened again but with rain! The views from Baranco camp are the best I've seen of Kili, snow capped magnificence, the camp is covered in vegetation which looks tropical and with the contrast of the snow capped mountain in the background it appears to be another world. Expect it to be below freezing tonight.
