Another early start, we hit the trail at 8.40am but I rose at 6.30am after very little sleep due the tent being at a 45 degree angle (slight over exaggeration). Today we were trekking to Shira plateau camp which is just over 3800m, but we actually ascended to over 4000m and dropped back down for acclimatisation. Again the day started off with beautiful sunshine but after a couple of miles on the trail the cloud soon descended, which cooled things down a little which was great as the trail was pretty steep. After 3 hours of trekking we sat down for lunch and the sun reappeared, we were visited by a pair of massive Ravens which were obviously scavenging. We then traversed a steep ridge and once again heavy clouds set in but it was rather darker this time so the water proofs went on in preparation for another Kili downpour. When we reached our highest point the rain was light but we rushed down to camp just in case it got heavier. When we arrived the porters had set up camp and the heavens opened with hail, thunder, lighting and heavy rain luckily got in the tent just in time! By the time we hit camp it was 2pm so spent the rest of the day walking around the plateau taking photos and exploring the caves. Then came the dreaded first expedition to a Kili loo, which is actually just a hole in the ground, hmmm.
