Gary and I got off the beaten track with our stay at Mallaacoota. It is a huge holiday site but mostly for fishermen. There is a caravan park on the beach with at least 500 sites for tents and campers (caravans) that at this time of year had about 50 sites filled. We stayed at a local motel and ate at the hotel (the only restaurant in the village). We met a couple from Melbourne in the laundramat (laundrette) and they made some suggestions for our trip. The wife had been to Canada twice! The first time she and a friend drove from Vancouver to Newfoundland in three months. I was born here but I have never done the trip.
It was a really pretty place and it has a lake system that meets the ocean with the final lake being brackish. The motel owners asked us to come up to the top floor and see the view and it was amazing. He looked just like Bob Hoskins and he took our picture against the view.
