Saturday 28th June
Sam: We managed to get our flight from Brisbane to Melbourne at 18:25 and landed at 21:00. Apparently getting this flight saved us a two day car journey. Thank god for internal flights :). Once we had landed we realized we were another hours journey out of Melbourne city, having landed at Melbourne Avalon airport. Apparently this is why the flights are so cheap, lack of forward planning on our part :). We managed to get a bus into Melbourne and finally turned up at Pint on Punt hostel at 23:30. Pint on Punt is a hostel based above an Irish pub and run by some friendly Brits. Our first night was a bit of an experience discovering we had little fury friends in our room and also getting to listen to the band in the pub in our room for free. This free band became annoying to Christina who resorted to wearing ear plugs for the night.
Sunday 29th June
Sam: We woke early and helped ourselves to loads of the free breakfast provided downstairs in the pub. We then set off to the city center discovering straight away that Melbourne's winter is a lot colder than Brisbane's. The first stop of the day was in Richmond, just outside the city center, where we managed to watch a game of Aussie rules. After buying the tickets we realized the game lasted for two hours and the rules made no sense. The only way to describe it would be a cross between netball and rugby, weird but great atmosphere as it was a premiership game between the Melbourne Demons and Brisbane Lions.
After watching the match we head into the city and discovered that the musical 'Wicked' was on at the Regent Theater. We had heard it was one to watch and planned to see it in London but thought we'd book tickets for the show in Melbourne instead. We booked our tickets and then went for a cheap but lovely Chinese meal in China Town (Another China Town ticked off on our list). After the meal we went back to the Regent Theater as the show started at 18:30. The show lasted for about 3 hours and was absolutely stunning.Would definitely recommend going to see it in London. It's about the lives of the witches in the Wizard of Oz but before the film took place, so as they're growing up. It also has references to the film later in the show and makes sense of some of the things that occurred in the film, if that makes sense :). After the show we headed back to the hostel and went straight to bed, where I swear the resident mouse had been keeping my bed warm (Nice arrangement).
Monday 30th June
Sam: Today we did nothing but watch T.V and eat ginger bread biscuits and it was great :). We also managed to save a biscuit for our fury mate Micky, who'd helped himself to half of our pita bread (Not such a good arrangement). So in revenge I ate the ginger bread biscuit, one back at you Micky :)
Tues 1st July
Sam: July already, cant believe it. We started the day by packing our bags and putting them into storage for the day as our flight to Christchurch was not til 17:50, at least thats what it said on our e ticket. Once we'd put our stuff into storage we sat down and planned what we were going to do in NZ. We then got an airport shuttle bus to Melbourne International at 13:15, so plenty of time to board our Jet Star flight across to NZ. On arriving at the airport we discovered that they had rescedualed our flight and that it had left without us 5 hours previously. Luckly the lady behind the desk was helpful and got us onto a flight with Air New Zealand that took off the same time as the flight we initially intended to get. So we set off for Christchurch with Air New Zealand at 17:50 and got an in flight meal, an added bonus as Jet Star didn't do meals :). We landed into Christchurch at 23:10 and managed to get a bus to our hostel.

Wow!
Can't believe how much you two are packing into your trip - it just looks and sounds amazing. We're still hanging on in for summer here - we get brief glimpses every now and then, but then the rain comes back and spoils it all! Becky graduated last week! She got a 2:1 and was delighted. She's now working for 3 weeks at Tregolls school in Truro (quite an eye opener!) and then has various trips planned, as well as some cushy 3 days a week work for lots of money! Matt is settled into London and working long hours. Take care and keep blogging - it's brill!
Lots of love, Fiona.x
Have that little mouse!
