The lovely people at Fraser Coast Backpackers offered us a courtesy bus to the bus station in plenty of time for a Mc Donald's breakfast before we caught the Greyhound Bus at 9.25 to take us to Brisbane. Arriving at the Transit Centre early afternoon we were only a short 10 min walk away from our hostel ' Aussie Way'. We went for a look around Brisbane town an bought some essentials in Coles and got an early night.
Thurs 26th
What a Fabe day! We got up to an alarm to make our way to Australia Zoo, a.k.a. Steve Irwin's Zoo. A 1hr train ride out of Brisbane, just passed the Glass Mountains. We watched and listened to a snake, bird and crock show, where we were informed about the animals and some of their natural behavior was demonstrated. e.g. croc's jumping our of the water for meat. The show really informative and good, if not a bit cheesy in places and a bit surreal with frequent references made to video clips of Steve Irwin on the big screen. and places where you could have your photo taken and super- imposed onto a background to look as if you were with Steve e.g. holding a crocodile. Needless to say, we didnt get this done.
The kangaroo enclosure was my highlight, a lovely and very large enclosure where visitors were free to walk in sit on the grass right next to free roaming kangeroo's to stroke and feed them with the roo food you could buy for $0.50. There were also 'rest zones' in the enclosure, sheltered for the roo's from which people were to keep out.
The second highlight was the koala show where Sam + I got to touch a koala - amongst other interesting facts we found out they are not actually bears, and do not have a rib cage!
I'm the evening we met up with Ricky and Claire, a lovely couple we met on our speed boat + snorkeling trip on Ko Phi Phi. After a bit of trouble finding them, as neither of us were familiar with the city as they have just moved to Brisbane and live out of the city, they took us to a nice steak and fish restaurant with gorgeous food =) it was a lovely evening where we caught up on travel stories and Sam acquired a nice pair of trainers - thanks guy's.
