We arrived at Hong Kong International airport on Lantau Island at 07:30 local time. The flight was good, plenty of choice on the movies front and nice food. On arrival we decided to take the local bus and check into our hostel to dump the bags. The hostel is 35 mins away from the airport, and is situated in the busy town of Mong Kok (Kowloon). After check in we decided to take a look around the local area before having a siesta. Feeling refreshed we went for a long walk down Nathan road (the main strip of Mong Kok) to Hong Kong Harbor. We then went into a local noodle bar and bought loads of food between us for a fiver :)
Christina: as the pic shows Sam's enjoyed couldn't get enough of the good stuff, he he.
After a mammoth 14.5 hrs sleep - wow we felt good after that- we headed to a local smoothy + similarish stuff cafe for a mango + coconut slush puppy like thing, got the map out and made a plan for the day..
We took the local MTR (Hong Kong underground) to Hong Kong Island where we trekked passed the government buildings on our way to the bottom of Victoria Peak.We took the tram to the top of the peak, where there was a shopping mall selling all local goods, view points for appreciating the view - went out onto the roof/ view point which overlooked Hong Kong, tho it was cloudy so not as spectacular view as it could have been, but still gorgeous and the wild wind was warm. Also there were several lovely looking restaurants, we chose to indulge in a Thai/ Chinese meal in posh and pricey restaurant overlooking the hill's before taking the tram back down and MTR back to Mong Kok.
We took a wander through the massive ladies market, with umpteen neat stalls selling 'copies' of bags, belts, t-shirts etc, as well as jewelry and Chinese clothing, material and accessories. But i was very good... we just bought nice looking cakes, they seem to be traditional here, and took them back to the hostel.
Tomorrow we're planning on going to see the Giant Buddha.
We're having such a fab time and send Lots of love to everyone @ home XxX
