Relaxing in Shizuoka
Entry 162 of 167 | show all | print this entry |
Last night I slept really well at Mayumi's cafe in Nara. I woke up around 8am or so, and around 9, I took off towards the JR station.
I made all of my connections, from Nara to Kyoto, and from there my super comfy Shinkansen to Shizuoka, and from there the quick regional ride to Shimizu, where Mochan lives in Shizuoka. I read my book, listened to podcasts, and had some more fantastic vanilla chocolate chip cookies. Yum.
Mochan picked me up, and it was cool to be hosted by someone I've hosted before. He drove me around to a nice old temple from town, and a classic, beautiful Japanese house as well. Then, while he visited his mom for a couple of hours, he dropped me off at a Japanese bath house.
It was sooo good. It was worth every \en, and I almost fell asleep while I was there. I did the multiple pools of varying temperatures, and also the sauna. My favorite was jumping from the super cold (around 17C) pool to the super hot (around 42C) pool. I would get all light headed and dizzy when I went into the hot pool, and it was sooo relaxing.
Anyways, after a couple of hours, Mochan picked me up, and now here we are, at his place. I dropped off my bags, and he's making us dinner, which is really nice. Tomorrow morning we're off to Tokyo. Apparently he has a traveler meeting there, so I'll ride up there with him, and then afterwards I'll meet up with Masa, my brother's friend, who is being super nice and letting me stay with him for my last nights before going back to Peru.
Word.
