So this morning I took a flight with Kang from Bagan to Heho (near
Inle Lake). From there we took a taxi to Nyaungshwe (where most of
the hotels are), which I really really like, so far. It still feels
really quite small, as Bagan was, but even more rural and without all
of the vendors that were starting to get on my nerves a bit.
We just took it easy and walked around town for a bit today. We also
walked down the road out of town a bit by the rice fields and river.
Along the way, we stopped by an area where they were collecting some
rice. After sitting down for a bit to admire the view and relax, an
old man came by and invited us to follow him.
We arrived at his house a couple of minutes down the road and he was
so friendly and warm. He invited us into his home and introduced us
to his family, which was busy separating the rice grains from the
crops. He was telling us about how he was injured during the time he
was in the army and he fought in the Japanese-American war (WWII I
think he meant). It was a really nice, laid back time.
Afterwards, we went back towards town and passed out in the hotel
room. It was nap time, and we slept for a few hours and I read a bit
as well.
Not much more, really, to tell after that. We just went for a really
nice, peaceful walk, around the nice, small town of Nyaungshwe and
watched the village people do their daily things.
Tomorrow we're doing a boat ride around Inle lake, which should be
really nice, I think. There are also the Myanmar women who have the
long necks because of their beautiful neck jewelry. I really look
forward to that. Then, on Wednesday, I think we'll go trekking for a
bit, and then finally take a long, long bus ride that starts Thursday
at noon, and arrives at Yangon Friday morning.
I promise I'll have better updates soon, and photos once I'm back in Bangkok. ;)
