8:10am
Yay, I made it to the Vietnamese Consulate by bus somehow, and I still have 20 minutes to spare until they open. I hope I can give them the big bucks, and then rush back to the hotel, pick up my bags, and (somewhow) find a Hanoi-bound bus. Let's hope I make it. 8:55am So apparently I have to come back at 6pm to pick up my passport and visa, SO.. I'll take the bus to Hanoi tomorrow morning, it seems. I met a Chinese guy at the Vietnamese Consulate who's doing the same thing with his buddy, so I'm tagging along with them to the bus ticket counter to buy my tickets. I'm pretty sure the ticket booth is pretty close to the (ugh) hotel that I'm staying at. So now I have to pay another 6 bucks to stay one more night at the crummy hotel. The travel guid was right when it said it was like staying at a hospital haha... At least I slept really well. Oh, by the way, it's barely 9:00am and it's already smoking hot. Not sure what all I'll do today. Maybe visit a museum or send some stuff via mail. (ed. note- OR I might go to a internet cafe and escape the heat for a bit :p ) 12:30pm And maybe I'll watch a movie too! ;) The new transformers movie just came out and I really want to see it, since it was one of my favorite cartoons when I was growing up in the 80s. I hear it has bad reviews, but I could care less. It also gives me the chance to escape the crazy heat for a while. Australia's winter sounds really nice right about now, and I'm sure it'll sound even nicer the further South I head. The movie starts at 1:00pm, and afterwards I might go walking around a bit until it's time to head back to the Vietnamese Consulate to pick up my passport. 7:45pm Yay, I got my Vietnamese Visa. I even got a multiple-entry (which I'm sure is common) that I don't think I will even need. It was pretty exciting to get my passport with the visa. Now, with my bus ticket and my visa, I'm read to move on to Vietnam tomorrow morning. 11:30pm So I was walking back to the hotel from eating and an internet cafe when I heard some drumming. At first I just walked by, but I couldn't help myself and went back to investigate. It turns out it was one of those drumming arcade video games with an actual drum set hooked up. I waited for my turn and then went at it. I was the best drummer there so I was the main attraction for a while there. More than usual (for being a foreigner), I guess. I also got a cool t-shirt in Yangshuo that says "Lao wai lai le" in Chinese in the front (the foreigner is coming) and "lao wai zou le" in the back (the foreigner is going/leaving). It's gotten a few smiles and increased pointing at me, which is always fun.

A UN PASITO DE VIETNAM!! (reply) Jul 11, 2007 09:43 EST by mariugenia
